Our Sacred Promise
At UNION, privacy is not a feature — it is our foundation. We understand that the moments you share with your partner are deeply personal. Every aspect of our platform has been designed with your privacy as the paramount concern.
What We Collect & Store
To provide UNION, we store the data described below. We are transparent about this: because we store accounts, tasks, images, and analytics, we do not claim that “no data is collected.” Instead, almost all of this data is end-to-end encrypted and unreadable to us, as explained in the next section.
- Account data: UNION supports anonymous accounts. We store an anonymous recovery key in our database, while the encryption key that unlocks your data is stored only on your device (client). We never see your encryption key.
- Partner connection data: the link between you and your partner and the synchronized state required to keep your shared space aligned.
- Tasks, rules, rewards and punishments you create.
- Journal entries (private and shared).
- Tracker data: mood and connection check-ins, sessions, and other tracked activity.
- Uploaded images and other media you add to the app.
- Purchase & subscription status: whether you hold an active subscription. Payments are handled by the App Store or Google Play; we do not store your full payment details.
- Analytics & crash logs: limited, aggregated diagnostic data used to keep the app stable and improve it. This is not used to identify you.
- Push notification tokens: a device token used solely to deliver notifications you have enabled.
- Email address (optional): only if you choose to provide one, used for account recovery and important announcements. It is never sold or shared.
End-to-End Encryption
With one clearly defined exception, UNION employs end-to-end encryption for all of your data — including account data, partner connection data, tasks, journal entries, tracker data, and uploaded images. This means:
- Your data is encrypted on your device before it is ever sent to our servers
- The encryption key lives only on your client — we store an anonymous recovery key, never the key that decrypts your content
- Data stored on our servers is cryptographic and unreadable, even to us and our backend providers
- Only you and your linked partner hold the keys to decrypt your shared sanctuary
Exception — publicly shared community content: Content you choose to post publicly to the community (the Wall of Sins) is not end-to-end encrypted, because it is intended to be visible to other users. Public posts and their images are also scanned by automated moderation systems for illegal, abusive, or explicit content. Do not post anything publicly that you wish to keep private.
Data Storage & Security
All data is stored on secure, encrypted servers operated by our backend providers (see Third-Party Services below). Due to our end-to-end encryption architecture, the content of your interactions remains cryptic and inaccessible — even in the unlikely event of a data breach, your intimate moments remain protected.
Data retention: we retain your data only for as long as your account is active and as necessary to provide our services. Analytics and crash logs are kept for a limited period in aggregated form. When you delete your account, your associated data is removed from our systems.
Data deletion: you may request complete deletion of your account and all associated data at any time, directly in the app or by emailing our support team. Once processed, your account data, partner connection data, tasks, journal entries, tracker data, and uploaded images are permanently deleted. Publicly shared community content may be removed on request, subject to legal and moderation record-keeping requirements.
Third-Party Services
We rely on a small number of trusted third-party providers to operate UNION. These include our backend and database infrastructure provider (such as Supabase), automated content-moderation services used to scan public community content, crash-reporting and analytics services, and push-notification delivery services. These providers process data only to the extent needed to provide their service, and end-to-end encrypted content remains unreadable to them.
We do not share, sell, or provide your personal information to third-party advertisers or marketing companies. Payment processing for subscriptions is handled by the Apple App Store and Google Play in accordance with their own privacy policies.
